Formerly the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument, this is a group of scattered, mostly uninhabited United States island territories across the central Pacific - Baker, Howland and Jarvis islands, Johnston, Wake and Palmyra atolls and Kingman Reef - together with roughly 490,000 square miles of surrounding water. Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, it protects some of the most pristine tropical reef and seabird habitat left anywhere. Access is by permit only.
