Lake Talquin State Park is a Florida state park in Leon County, about 15 miles west of Tallahassee. The park is situated just south of Lake Talquin near the Fort Braden community. The park covers 425.78 acres and its accessible from State Road 20 via Jack Vause Landing Road. The park is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Recreation and Parks. The land was donated to the State of Florida by the Florida Power Corporation in December 1970 and leased to the Division of Recreation and Parks the following June under a 99-year lease. The recreation of the modern park was adapted from the former Lake Talquin State Recreation Area, which once exceeded 20,000 acres; most of the surrounding uplands were transferred to the Florida Division of Forestry, now the Florida Forest Service, which today makes up the Lake Talquin State Forest. The park protects a stretch of high bluff and steep ravines above Lake Talquin, a 12,000-acre reservoir formed in 1927 when the Ochlockonee River was dammed at the Jackson Bluff for hydroelectric power. Covering most of the park's acreage is slope forest and upland-hardwood forest, with smaller areas of sandhill and seepage stream. All the waters in the park are designated as Outstanding Florida Waters. Day-use facilities include a picnic pavilion, a 650-foot boardwalk with an observation deck over the lake, a boat ramp, and about 1.68 miles of nature trails. Visitors to the park can participate in activities such as hiking, birding, freshwater fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.
